How To Tame An Allay In Minecraft

Minecraft introduces players to a massive variety of unique creatures, but few are as charming and genuinely helpful as the Allay. This glowing, floating blue mob is a fantastic helper that can gather loose items across your world, making it a favorite companion for automated farming and exploration. While it does not feature a traditional taming mechanic like wolves or cats, establishing a permanent bond with an Allay is a straightforward process once you understand its unique behaviors.
Locating Imprisoned Allays in the Overworld
Before you can build a connection with an Allay, you must first locate and rescue them from their structural prisons. These friendly spirits do not spawn naturally in the open wild and are exclusively held captive by Illagers in specific locations. You can routinely find them trapped inside dark oak cages generated directly outside Pillager Outposts.
Alternatively, larger groups of Allays are frequently locked away inside the jail cells on the ground floor of massive Woodland Mansions. Rescuing them requires defeating the hostile guards and breaking the wooden doors to grant them freedom. Preparing proper armor and weaponry is essential before attempting these dangerous rescue operations.
The Core Taming Process and Bonding Mechanics
Securing the loyalty of an Allay relies entirely on a unique item-sharing system rather than feeding them food. To initiate the bond, simply hold any item in your hand and interact with the freed creature to hand it over. Once the Allay is holding the specified item, it will officially begin following you around the map.
The companion will now actively search the surrounding area for matching entities dropped on the floor. It can hold up to a full stack of identical resources at a time before returning them directly to your position. This mechanical interaction serves as the definitive way to tame your new companion and utilize its gathering skills effectively.
Automating Collections Using Note Blocks
While an Allay naturally delivers collected items back to its designated owner, you can also alter its destination using sound mechanics. Playing a nearby Note Block creates a resonant signal that captures the attention of the creature for thirty seconds. During this window, the mob will choose to drop its collected inventory at the base of the musical block instead of bringing it to you.
This unique interaction allows clever players to design highly efficient sorting systems and automated item collection streams. By placing a hopper system directly underneath the block, you can safely store everything your helper brings back without manual intervention. Combining redstone mechanics with your blue companion opens up incredible strategic automation possibilities.
Duplicating and Multiplying Your Blue Companions
If you want to build a large workforce of helpers, you can easily multiply your active Allays through a special dance mechanic. When an Allay is within earshot of an active Jukebox playing a music disc, it will immediately begin an adorable dancing animation. While the music is actively playing, you can hand the dancing creature a single Amethyst Shard.
Consuming the shard causes the Allay to emit a soft heart particle effect and split into two separate entities. This duplication process features a built-in cooldown period of five minutes before the creature can multiply again. This mechanic ensures you can steadily grow a helpful army of airborne gatherers without needing to hunt down additional outposts.
